Services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

The Dhunlung Yarra Service is a dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander therapeutic service staffed by Aboriginal professionals. Members of the team work across a range of programs to deliver a range of culturally appropriate services, including counselling, family dispute resolution and other relationship support services.

Services are primarily based in the ACT region but are expanding to the lower South Coast and the Riverina region in NSW. Dhunlung Yarra means ‘Tell, Talk’ and incorporates words from both the Ngunnawal language (Dhunlung) and Wiradjuri language (Yarra).

The development of this service builds on the successful delivery of three Diploma of Counselling and Groupwork programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with all staff of the service having graduated from the Diploma program. Relationships Australia Canberra & Region has auspiced the delivery of the Diploma program since its inception in 2009.
